Celebrating Small Business Saturday as a vendor at Fantazma Cafe in Detroit

Another year, another Small Business Saturday!

A day spent connecting with customers, growing our brand and showcasing our new holiday items.

P.s. I refer to “our” a lot in this post… but babes, it’s just me, 6:23 is a one-woman show with a momma-manager.

Let’s Get Into It:

What is Small Business Saturday?

Small Business Saturday is an annual day created by American Express in 2010 to help small business owners drive sales during the holiday season.

The day always falls right after Black Friday and many organizations host events and markets to provide small business owners with opportunities to vend.

Where did 6:23 vend for Small Business Saturday 2025?

This year, I returned to Fantazma Cafe’s Small Business Saturday event to showcase holiday products and collections alongside many other local businesses.

Fantazma Cafe is located inside the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation, a nonprofit organization that provides support, education and services to the Southwest community.

The organization hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including small business classes, fashion shows, creative fests and giveaways.

What did we sell?

This year, we introduced a new baked good product, a peppermint cookie with a white chocolate chip and a holiday candy-based cookie. Both of those products were sold in our new bite-sized featured in a Christmas-themed packaging.

We also introduced greeting cards, postcards, a junk journal kit and bookmark bundles.

All of these products, besides our baked goods, can be found online.

What did we do differently at this event?

Elevation was a big goal in terms of table presence. Meaning, I wanted our products to be eye level to make it easier for customers to browse.

Bringing samples helped as well! It was great to watch customers eat the sample, say they enjoy it and want to buy a box immediately!

Our Thoughts?

Fantazma events typically bring a pretty good crowd and foot traffic. However, this time our business did not see the same foot traffic as last year. I truly believe that it was the weather; Michigan was expecting a snowstorm and the snow began around 1 p.m. The holiday market began around 11 a.m. and ended at 5 p.m.

Overall, we spent $10 to vend and made our money back as soon as the shop opened, plus additional. If the weather hadn’t been a factor, I believe we would’ve sold out on our baked goods. The best was achieving our goal and meeting new customers.

What did we learn?

Our biggest learning experience from this event was that sometimes the weather can play a part in markets and to be mindful of that when planning.

Always bet on you and elevate every.single.time.

Let’s Talk About It
